The NAAIM Exposure Index – Frequently Asked Questions
What is the NAAIM Exposure Index?
The NAAIM Exposure Index is a weekly measure of U.S. equity market exposure reported by participating members of the National Association of Active Investment Managers (NAAIM). It reflects how active investment managers are actually positioned in the market rather than how they feel about market conditions.
Who participates in the survey?
Only current NAAIM Regular Members who are Registered Investment Advisors (RIAs) or Investment Adviser Representatives (IARs) are eligible to submit weekly exposure data.
How is the Index calculated?
Each week, participating members report their firm’s current U.S. equity market exposure. Those responses are averaged to produce the weekly NAAIM Exposure Index.
The Index also includes standard deviation and quartile statistics, providing additional insight into the level of agreement among responding managers.
Why is the NAAIM Exposure Index valuable?
Because professional investment managers rarely disclose their portfolio holdings in real time, the NAAIM Exposure Index provides a unique glimpse into how active managers are collectively positioned in the market.
The Index has become a widely followed sentiment indicator used by investment professionals, researchers, financial media, and individual investors.
How much historical data is available?
Subscribers receive access to more than 20 years of historical NAAIM Exposure Index data, along with the current weekly Index values.
When is the Index updated?
The NAAIM Exposure Index is updated weekly and reflects the equity exposure reported by participating NAAIM members as of each Wednesday.
Who receives complimentary access?
Current NAAIM Regular, Special, and Associate Members receive complimentary password-protected access to the NAAIM Exposure Index as part of their membership benefits.

What is your Cancellation and Refund Policy?
NAAIM Exposure Index subscriptions are billed annually and are non-refundable.
Once payment has been processed and access credentials have been issued, cancellations will not result in a refund or prorated credit for any unused portion of the subscription term. Subscribers will continue to have access through the end of their paid subscription period.
To avoid future renewal charges, cancellation requests must be submitted at least 14 days prior to the subscription renewal date.
How do I become a NAAIM member?
If your firm qualifies for NAAIM membership, your membership includes complimentary password access to the NAAIM Exposure Index, along with numerous other member benefits.
